David Tennant to Star in Richard II for Royal Shakespeare Company; Winter Season Announced

The Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2013 winter season will include productions of Richard II starring David Tennant, Wendy & Peter Pan and adaptations of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall and Bringing Up Bodies. Under the artistic direction of Gregory Doran, the season will begin on October 10 with Richard II in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England.

Directed by Doran, Shakespeare’s Richard II will star Tennant in the title role. The production will play from October 10 through November 16 at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, with an official opening night on October 17. Richard II will then transfer to London’s Barbican Theatre, where it will play from December 9 through January 25, 2014.

Wendy & Peter Pan, Ella Hickson’s new adaptation of the classic children’s tale by J.M. Barrie, is scheduled to begin performances December 10 and play through March 2. The production will be directed by Jonathan Munby and designed by Colin Richmond. Opening night is set for December 18 at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

New adaptations of Hilary Mantel’s Man Booker prize-winning novels Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies will receive world premieres in the Swan Theatre. Adapted in two parts by Mike Poulton, the play series will be directed by Jeremy Herrin. Wolf Hall begins performances December 11 and will play a limited engagement through March 29, 2014. Bring Up the Bodies begins performances December 19 and will play through March 29, 2014. Opening night for both productions is set for January 8, 2014.
