Cast Set for West End Run of The Silence of the Sea

Casting has been announced for the West End production of Anthony Weigh's version of Vercors' The Silence of the Sea. The production will begin previews on January 10, 2013 at Trafalgar Studios. An official opening night is set for January 14 and the show will run through February 2 as part of the Donmar Trafalgar season.

Directed by Simon Evans, the cast will feature Leo Bill, Simona Bitmate and Finbar Lynch. The Silence of the Sea is a drama that examines an excruciating dilemma faced by both the occupier and the occupied. In a time of conflict, a soldier (Bill) is billeted to the home of an old man (Lynch) and his niece (Bitmate). Powerless to turn him away, they resist him with a silence that becomes their most potent weapon.

Bill’s West End credits include Posh, The Way of the World, School for Scandal, Pains of Youth, The Observer, The Hothouse and The Reporter. His film and TV credits include The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Alice in Wonderland, Becoming Jane and Dr Who: A Christmas Carol. Bitmate has appeared in You Always Forget Something and Under a Foreign Sky. Her television work includes Doctors for the BBC. Lynch’s theater credits include Hecuba, The Green Fields Beyond, Desire Under the Elms and The Duchess of Malfi. His television work includes Silk, The Hollow Crown: Richard II, Dalziel and Pascoe and Waking the Dead.

The Silence of the Sea will feature set design by Ben Stones, lighting by David Plater and sound by Gregory Clarke.
