Suranne Jones to Star in 20th Anniversary Production of Beautiful Thing

British TV star Suranne Jones will lead a new production of Jonathan Harvey’s Beautiful Thing, which will commemorate the play’s 20th anniversary. Nikolai Foster will direct the show, which will play the West End’s Arts Theatre from April 13, 2013 through May 25, before launching a tour through Liverpool, Leeds and Brighton.

Beautiful Thing  follows two inner city 16-year-old boys named Jamie and Ste, who find comedy, warmth and music as they experience their first brush with love. Jones will star as Sandra, Jamie’s mother. Additional casting has not yet been announced.

Beautiful Thing premiered at the Bush Theatre in 1993, earning Harvey an Olivier Award nomination. A successful film adaptation was released in 1996.

Jones is best known to audiences for her roles on Coronation Street and Scott & Bailey. Her theater credits include Top Girls, A Few Good Men and Blythe Spirit. She can also be seen on TV in Dr. Who, A Touch of Cloth and The Secret of Crickley Hall.
