Casting Announced for Chariots of Fire Stage Adaptation in London

Casting has been announced for the upcoming stage premiere of Mike Bartlett’s Chariots of Fire, adapted from the 1981 film of the same name. As previously announced, the show will make its debut at the U.K.’s Hampstead Theatre on May 9, with opening night set for May 22. Hampstead Theatre artistic director Edward Hall will helm the project. The limited engagement will run until June 16.

Chariots of Fire’s cast includes James McArdle as Harold Abrahams and Jack Lowden as Eric Liddell, as well as Sam Archer, Joe Bannister, Antonia Bernath, Natasha Broomfield, Gareth Charlton, Henry Davis, Mark Edel-Hunt, Lloyd Everitt, Daniel Fraser, Nickolas Grace, Leemore Marrett Jr., David Newman, Matthew Pearson, Simon Slater, Savannah Stevenson, Paul Tinto, Simon Williams, Tam Williams and Nicholas Woodeson

Chariots of Fire tells the story of two track athletes—one Christian and one Jewish—who overcome the odds to compete in the 1924 Paris Olympics. Based on the extraordinary true story of Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams, Chariots of Fire is an inspirational tale of hope, honor and belief. Written by Colin Welland and directed by Hugh Hudson, the film won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

The production’s creative team will include designer Miriam Buether, costume designer Michael Howells, lighting designer Rick Fisher, choreographer Scott Ambler and sound designer Paul Groothuis, with original music by Vangelis and additional music by Jason Carr.
