Singing Sensation Susan Boyle To Play Herself in a New Musical

Scottish singer Susan Boyle will star in a planned musical about her life, according to London's The Sun. Boyle became an overnight sensation after her 2009 audition for reality show Britain’s Got Talent—a rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream,” from Les Miserables that moved even famously stony judge Simon Cowell—went viral on YouTube. The show will chronicle Boyle's life story, from her years living in small town Scotland through her world-famous television audition and subsequent rise to fame.

"I'm definitely going to be on stage,” Boyle said of the show. “I'd rather that than having to sit watching people up there looking like me.”

Boyle’s now famous YouTube video has been viewed several hundred million times since it first appeared online, and her star has been rising ever since. She released her first album, I Dreamed a Dream, in November 2009, and it sold more than nine million copies. Her follow up album, The Gift, debuted at #1 on the UK charts in November 2010, and she has a guest spot as a lunch lady on the upcoming holiday episode of Glee.

"I want to be doing the music parts,” Boyle said of her planned stage adventure, “so I'll be coming in and out of the show. I'm looking forward to doing some live work. It'll be really nice to see so many of the people who have supported me in person."

Show organizers are planning a UK tour late next year.
