Ian McDiarmid, winner of a 2006 Tony for his performance on Broadway in Faith Healer, will lead the new Chichester Festival Theatre production of Six Characters In Search of an Author. A co-production with artistic director Rupert Goold's Headlong Theatre, the play will be seen in a version by Goold and Headlong literary associate Ben Power and directed by Goold, whose Chichester revival last year of Macbeth, starring Patrick Stewart and Goold's own wife Kate Fleetwood, has traveled onward to the West End and, now, to Broadway.

McDiarmid will play the Father in Pirandello's defining play, which will co-star Olivier winner Noma Dumezweni (A Raisin in the Sun), Eleanor David and Jamie Bower. The show opens July 8 for a run through August 23 in the studio-sized Minerva; previews start June 27.

The ever-busy Goold has also been tapped to direct the forthcoming West End revival of Oliver!, starring Rowan Atkinson.
