Clary, Nuttall, Richards and James to Join London's Cabaret

Julian Clary
Julian Clary, Amy Nuttall, Angela Richards and Barry James are set to join the cast of the West End revival of Cabaret. The new stars will join the Olivier-winning production on 2 October.

Clary will replace James Dreyfus in the role of the Emcee. He was last seen in the West End when he starred in Taboo as Leigh Bowery in 2002. Known for his comedy writing and performing, Clary first gained recognition through his stand-up routines and quickly became a household name in British comedy. After appearing on Channel Four's Friday Night Live in the late 1980s, he co-wrote and starred in his own top comedy series—Terry and Julian, Sticky Moments, & Sticky Moments on Tour—as well as two series and a Christmas special called All Rise for Julian Clary. His stage work includes starring in various pantomimes such as Dick Whittington in Northampton and Cinderella in Bristol.

Nuttall will replace Kim Medcalf as Sally Bowles. She transfers directly from performing in Boeing-Boeing at the Comedy Theatre in the West End. Her credits include starring in the U.K. tour of My Fair Lady and the recent West End production of Guys and Dolls. She is also well known Chloe Atkinson from Emmerdale, in which she appeared from 2000 to 2005.

Richards is replacing Honor Blackman in the role of Fraulein Schneider. Richard was nominated for an Olivier Award for Side by Side with Sondheim. Her other star stage performances include taking over as Grizabella from Elaine Page in Cats and playing Mrs. Johnstone in Blood Brothers.

James will replace Francis Matthews in the role of Herr Schultz. His credits include Les Miserables, Chicago and Beauty and Beast, both in the West End and around the country. He was most recently in the Menier Chocolate Factory production of Little Shop of Horrors.

John Kander and Fred Ebb’s Cabaret, directed by Rufus Norris, plays in the West End at the Lyric Theatre.
