Legal Fictions, a double bill by John Mortimer, creator and author of the now-legendary Rumpole of the Bailey TV series, opened on 28 February at the SavoyTheatre. The evening pairs two one-acts:The Dock Brief, in which an inept barrister is asked to represent a baleful man who has confessed to murdering his cheerful enough wife, and Edwin, which follows a retired high court judge who has become overly used to trying as many people as he can—at least in his head, a habit that makes for disconcerting results when applied to real life. The entertaining opening celebrated its first night with headliner Edward Fox and a host of well-wishers toasting at the Savoy Hotel. Take a look!
